Quick answer
The Indonesian Grand Prix runs at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit in south Lombok on 9-11 October 2026, on a 4.3 km, 17-corner layout. For a travel agent the race itself is the easy part: the hard part is that a single weekend concentrates a very large crowd onto one road corridor of one island whose accommodation base is small relative to that demand. Rooms, drivers, guides and airport slots all tighten together, and they tighten for the days either side, not just the Sunday. Explera DMC Indonesia plans race-weekend groups from the transfer corridor backwards, because on Lombok that is the constraint that decides everything else.
What is actually happening, and when
- The event. The Indonesian round of the MotoGP world championship, held at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit in the Mandalika area of south Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. The 2026 edition is scheduled for 9-11 October 2026: practice and qualifying build through Friday and Saturday, with the main race on the Sunday.
- The circuit. A 4.3 km layout of 17 corners, built into a coastal site rather than an urban one. That location is the whole operational story — it is not in a city with deep hotel stock and a dense road network.
- The 2027 date is not published. As at 20 September 2026 the full 2027 calendar has not been released, so the Indonesian round's 2027 date is not yet fixed. Do not print one. Quote the 2026 weekend, say the following year is pending, and reconfirm on the championship's own calendar before you commit a client to a date.
- Tickets are a separate supply chain from ground. Treat them as two bookings with two deadlines. A confirmed room does not imply a confirmed seat, and the reverse causes more complaints.
What a race weekend does to Lombok
The corridor is the constraint
Traffic between Lombok International Airport, the Kuta Mandalika area and the circuit runs on a limited number of roads, and on peak days those roads carry a volume they do not carry in an ordinary week. Journey times that are routine in August are not routine on race Sunday. Every timing in the programme should be built on the race-weekend figure and not the normal one, and the safest version of that is to move the group before the crowd rather than with it.
Accommodation tightens well beyond the circuit
Demand does not stop at the nearest resort. It pushes north to Senggigi and across to Bali, and it does so for several nights on either side of the race. A group that books late is not choosing between hotels near the circuit; it is choosing between staying on a different part of the island and staying on a different island.
Crew, not just rooms
English-speaking guides, experienced drivers and the right vehicle sizes are a smaller pool on Lombok than on Bali, and the race weekend takes a large bite out of that pool. Confirm people at the same time as rooms, not after them.
Arrival and departure days are the pressure points
The airport handles a compressed peak in both directions. Late outbound flights on the Monday are where a programme most often loses its margin — build the day after the race with less in it, not more.
How to package it
- Sell the week, not the weekend. Lombok carries a good programme either side of the race — the south coast, the Gili islands, the Senaru side of Rinjani — and a three-night race trip is both harder to operate and worth less than a seven-night one built around it.
- Pair it with Bali if the group is large. Flights between Bali and Lombok are short and frequent, and using Bali for part of the stay removes the accommodation squeeze without removing the race.
- Fix the meeting points in writing. On a day when phone networks are congested and everything looks the same, a named, photographed pick-up point beats a map pin.
- Brief the heat and the sun properly. October in south Lombok is hot and exposed, and the circuit is a long day outdoors. Water, shade and a realistic view of how much walking is involved belong in the joining instructions.
- Confirm the entry paperwork separately. A race group is still an arriving group: see our briefing on Indonesia's entry rules, the levy and the arrival card. Lombok is not Bali, so the Bali levy question depends on whether the routing actually touches Bali.
What to confirm before you quote
Dates and schedules for a motorsport weekend move, and a printed date that turns out to be wrong is a refund conversation. Confirm the race weekend against the championship's own calendar at the time of booking, confirm ticket categories and what each one physically gives access to, and confirm ground arrangements against the actual arrival and departure flights rather than the brochure days.
Explera DMC Indonesia holds Lombok ground capacity, builds race-weekend timings on race-weekend traffic rather than ordinary traffic, and tells partner agents early when the pressure on rooms and crew starts rather than when it has already closed.
